Penco Locker Handles - Repair Them And Get Your Lockers Up And Running!

You have Penco lockers in your school corridors, locker rooms, or employee lounge.  Several of them have handles that are hanging loose, and do nothing when you pull on them.  Does this scene look familiar to you?  If you have Penco lockers, it probably does.

Penco locker handles are notorious for failing.  In fact, the Penco projecting handle is our number one seller among the hundreds of locker repair parts that we sell.

Fortunately, there is an easy fix.  We sell the two-part handles that will get your lockers back in working condition quickly.

First things first, though.  You need to begin by getting the lockers open so that you can take the old handle off.  The way to do this easily is to take the claw of a hammer, grab onto the handle lifter, and give it a hard tug downward.  The lifter should come out of the housing and land on the floor.  Next, take a small flat-head screwdriver and insert it through the handle housing, fishing around to the left until you find a small opening in the lock bar.  Once you've found the hole, insert the end of the screwdriver into it and pull up.   As the lock bar goes up, pull the door open.  It's as simple as that.

After you've opened the door, reference the video below on how to install the new handle.  If you have any questions, give us a call anytime at 800-377-1218 or send an email to service@lockerhardware.com.  And be sure to check out our website at www.lockerhardware.com.  Happy locker repairs!

Repair Parts For Obsolete Lockers

So I have some very old lockers, perhaps from the 1930s or 40s.  Maybe they are more recent than that.  But I've found out that the company that made my lockers has been out of business for many years.  I don't want to spend the money to replace these lockers.  They still work fine, except for one or two broken parts here and there.  What am I to do?  How do I get parts for lockers whose manufacturers are no longer around?

Never fear.  KLS Locker Hardware can help.  We carry thousands of locker repair parts, many of them for obsolete lockers.  What we don't have in stock, we can often obtain from secondary sources quite quickly.  If you have a 1942 Berger locker with a missing handle, we have that.  If you have a 1950s Lyon locker that needs a lock bar, we have it.  What about a 1965 Republic locker with a missing or damaged latch?  Or a 1972 Penco locker with a broken handle?  Or even a Medart locker from 1994 with messed up latches?  We have all of these parts, many in stock, and can ship right away.

And what's more important, we have the expertise to help you determine exactly what is needed to repair your locker for a minimum of cost.  The parts we furnish are of the highest quality available--some of our aftermarket parts for obsolete lockers even exceed the specifications of the original OEM part!

So the next time you have a question about a locker repair, give us a call at 800-377-1218, or email us at service@lockerhardware.com.  We have the answer, and we have the product!

Those Annoying Summer Locker Lock Combination Changes

Today, let's talk about the bane of all school maintenance supervisors: summer locker lock combination changes.

As a school maintenance supervisor, you have dozens of projects to get through in about 8 or 10 weeks during the summer.  Where do you start?  As you are considering the dauntless challenge of getting everything done, suddenly you get hit in the head by the reality that you have 2000 locker combinations that you will need to advance for the fall student locker occupation.  You can't spare your maintenance team to do this work.  They have too many other things to do.  You could hire students to do this work, but past experience tells you that you will have plenty of problems when they are done, i.e., missed combinations, overlooked lockers, and so on.

This is where Keur Locker Services can be most valuable to you.  We can inexpensively change your combinations and free you and your maintenance staff to address more important things.  We will carefully change the combinations, and then check every lock for accuracy. Additionally, we will take care of minor door adjustments as we change the locks, and we will create a list of more major repairs for you to consider.  When we are done, your lockers will be ready for the fall! Your maintenance staff, students, and especially teachers (who often have to deal with students who can't get into their lockers) will thank you.

Our service area is lower Michigan, northern Indiana, and northwest Ohio.  If you are in these regions, give us a call, and let us show you what we can do for you.  Never worry again about those pesky locker combination locks and all the time and effort needed to get your lockers in great shape for your students returning in the fall.

Purchasing New Lockers: Purchasing Over The Internet

Purchasing lockers over the internet can be either a satisfying experience, a real nightmare, or anything in between. As with any other kind of purchase via the internet, you should carefully check out any company that you are dealing with when anticipating a locker purchase over the internet.

The internet has greatly empowered the buying public. Unfortunately, this has also led to "bottom line" pricing by most companies that sell directly over the internet. With lockers, this means that you may not get all of the crucial components that you need for a complete locker installation.

For example, when you purchase "packaged lockers" over the internet, you will normally be purchasing cartons of 1 or 3 lockers. A carton of 1 locker will have 2 sides; a carton of 3 lockers will have 4 sides. Let's say that you need 6 lockers and you want to build them in 3 groups. So you order 2 cartons of 3 lockers. You will receive a total of 8 side panels between the two cartons. The trouble is that you actually need 9 side panels to build these lockers in groups of 2. So now you are short a side panel. You can see from this example that you need to plan ahead carefully to make sure that you are ordering not only the proper quantity of lockers, but also the proper breakdown of carton quantities to insure enough materials to do your installation properly.

Furthermore, "packaged" lockers normally come unassembled, with 6" open legs, flat tops, with coat hooks, and with a single shelf in full-height lockers. Not included with standard packaged lockers are leg closure panels, sloping tops, finished end panels, any filler panels for wall-to-wall installation, corner tops (if you are coming out of a corner and running lockers on two walls), premium colors, any sort of locks, and even number plates in most cases. Furthermore, may companies who sell lockers over the internet will not even have these accessories available to you even if you know to ask for them.

This is where a specialty locker company becomes invaluable. The representative can walk you through all of the various options that you may need for a complete installation, and for lockers that will best suit your all around needs.

Keur Locker Services has 30 years in the locker industry, furnishing new lockers and locker repair parts to schools, businesses, and institutions of all kinds. Purchasing New Lockers: Purchasing From A Locker Specialty Company

There are several advantages to purchasing lockers from a company specializing in locker sales. To begin with, a locker specialty company knows the locker business inside and out. They will take the time to listen to your needs and to suggest the type of locker that will best suit your needs.

Locker specialty companies are equipped to handle every type of locker project from just a few "packaged" lockers to very large and complex locker installations. Most specialty locker companies are also geared to help you with locker repair needs. They can furnish everything from nuts and bolts, to repair parts, to complete renovation of your existing lockers.

Locker specialty companies are generally willing and able to send a representative within their service area to meet with you, review your requirements, take measurements, and make recommendations. The representative will be able to answer all of your questions and concerns involving both new locker installations and renovation projects.

Locker specialty company have the ability to prepare a "shop" drawing, i.e., a layout drawing showing the floor plan and "elevations" (two-dimensional front and side views) to give you an idea of what your locker room will look like at the completion of the installation or renovation. In short, locker specialty companies bring with them an added measure of expertise and service that you will not be able to get with a material handling company or, certainly, from a catalog house. The additional personal attention provided by a locker specialty company is something that anyone ordering more than just a few lockers should seriously consider.

Keur Locker Services has 30 years in the locker industry, furnishing new lockers and locker repair parts to schools, businesses, and institutions of all kinds. Keur can furnish everything you need in lockers from the prepackaged, quick-ship type, to repair parts for your existing lockers, to entirely new, custom-designed and engineered locker rooms. Purchasing New Lockers: Purchasing From A Material Handling Company

Purchasing lockers from a material handling company is a somewhat better proposition than buying from a catalog house. For starters, most communities of any size have one or more material handling companies. These companies handle a variety of shop storage and processing equipment from pallet racks, to shelving, to conveyor systems, and so on. They also will more than likely sell lockers.

While you may not find a locker expert in every material handling organization, you will be able to talk with someone local, in person if you like; and if they don't know the answers to your questions, they know where to go to get the answers.

You will find material handling companies much more personal than a standard catalog house. Employees are more likely to listen to your needs and respond with one or more options for you to consider. And they are also more likely to try to tailor the lockers to meet your requirements and not simply sell you one-size-fits-all prepackaged lockers.

In general, material handling companies are a good source for purchasing new lockers, particularly if your locker room is not too large or your locker layout too complex.

For these larger and more complex locker projects, consider calling a locker expert. When you are not sure where to turn for your locker needs, contact Keur Lockers Services and let us put our experience and expertise to work for you.

Purchasing New Lockers: General Merchandise Catalog Houses

General merchandise catalogs: They have a way of showing up in our mailboxes every day, often unsolicited. They offer everything from coffee pots to car tires. It is fun to leaf through these catalogs; often there are many unusual items that just can't be found elsewhere, especially in stores.

Lockers are one of those items that you can't just pick up at your local discount department store or even at hardware superstores such as Lowes or Home Depot. However, lockers are often included in general merchandise catalogs, making it easy for the average Joe to place his order for lockers.

But are catalog houses the best place to go to buy lockers? The advantages are convenience and price. But for the ease of ordering and low price, are you getting what you expect and what you need?

Catalog houses sell prepackaged lockers in a few sizes and a couple of colors at a low cost. This is certainly convenient, but it is a one-size-fits-all approach. Your needs, however, may require some tailoring. For example, do you need a locker base? Do you need sloped tops? What about finished ends, filler panels, locks? And, who is going to assemble and install these lockers when they show up on your loading dock? Who do you call if you run into problems putting your lockers together, or if you are missing parts?

And the $64,000.00 question: When you call the catalog house for specific information about their locker offerings, will you be able to speak with someone who is knowledgeable about lockers, someone who can ask important questions about your specific installation and offer you the components that you will need to make your installation "work" for you?

The answer to the big money question is likely "no." And that means that you can really use expert help. A locker expert can save you from a lot of pitfalls, hassles, and inconvenience, and in the process save you money and give you what you want and expect in a new locker installation.

Keur Locker Services has 30 years in the locker industry, furnishing new lockers and locker repair parts to schools, businesses, and institutions of all kinds.
